In a significant development for Uttar Pradesh's agricultural sector, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Friday that the state will export 40 tonnes of mangoes to Japan and Malaysia this year.

The Chief Minister also revealed that Lucknow's Dussehri mango will be exported to the United States for the first time in 160 years.

Speaking at the inauguration of the three-day Mango Festival at Awadh Shilp Gram, Adityanath highlighted the economic benefits of these exports.

He noted that while Dussehri mangoes sell for Rs 60-100 per kg in India, they can fetch up to Rs 900 per kg in the US market.

Even after accounting for taxes, cargo, and air freight costs of Rs 250-300 per kg, farmers and horticulturists stand to gain a significant profit margin of around Rs 600 per kg.

The Chief Minister emphasised Uttar Pradesh's prominence in India's mango production, stating that the state produces 58 lakh metric tonnes of mangoes on 3.15 lakh hectares of land. This accounts for 25-30 per cent of India's total mango production.

As part of the festival, which runs from July 12 to July 14, an exhibition featuring 120 varieties of mangoes has been organised.

The event also includes a mango-eating competition and training seminars for producers.

To mark the occasion, Adityanath flagged off a truck loaded with mangoes destined for export to various countries, symbolising the state's growing presence in the international fruit market.

This move is expected to boost Uttar Pradesh's agricultural exports and provide new opportunities for the state's mango farmers and horticulturists in the global market.
