Turkmenistan Presents Its Renewable Energy Strategy To Foreign Partners


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, July 6. Turkmenistan's Ambassador to Belgium Sapar Palvanov presented the country's renewable energy policy at a round table in Brussels dedicated to the energy potential and green policy of Central Asia, Trend reports.

According to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium, the event was attended by ambassadors of the countries of the region and Mongolia, heads of European companies, and research institutes.

The Turkmen Ambassador stressed the country's commitment to diversifying the energy sector and developing renewable energy sources, while noting Turkmenistan's significant potential in the field of solar energy, where the duration of sunlight reaches 3,000 hours per year.

He also spoke about the country's efforts to reduce methane emissions and plans to join the Global Methane Pledge, mentioning that a roadmap for the development of international cooperation in this area was approved in June 2023.

Among the practical steps he mentioned: the opening of the Arkadag smart city using environmentally friendly technologies, the launch of a hybrid power plant in the Balkan region based on renewable energy sources with a capacity of 10 MW, and the construction of a 100 MW solar power plant in the Lebap region.

Meanwhile, in recent years, Turkmenistan has been actively developing the field of renewable energy sources, seeking to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and increase the sustainability of its economy.

The government of the country is taking steps to introduce solar and wind power plants, given the rich potential of the region for the use of these types of energy.
