ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, July 6. Turkmenistan's
Ambassador to Belgium Sapar Palvanov presented the country's
renewable energy policy at a round table in Brussels dedicated to
the energy potential and green policy of Central Asia, Trend reports.
According to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium, the event
was attended by ambassadors of the countries of the region and
Mongolia, heads of European companies, and research institutes.
The Turkmen Ambassador stressed the country's commitment to
diversifying the energy sector and developing renewable energy
sources, while noting Turkmenistan's significant potential in the
field of solar energy, where the duration of sunlight reaches 3,000
hours per year.
He also spoke about the country's efforts to reduce methane
emissions and plans to join the Global Methane Pledge, mentioning
that a roadmap for the development of international cooperation in
this area was approved in June 2023.
Among the practical steps he mentioned: the opening of the
Arkadag smart city using environmentally friendly technologies, the
launch of a hybrid power plant in the Balkan region based on
renewable energy sources with a capacity of 10 MW, and the
construction of a 100 MW solar power plant in the Lebap region.
Meanwhile, in recent years, Turkmenistan has been actively
developing the field of renewable energy sources, seeking to reduce
dependence on fossil fuels and increase the sustainability of its
economy.
The government of the country is taking steps to introduce solar
and wind power plants, given the rich potential of the region for
the use of these types of energy.
