Floods In Central Afghanistan Cause Deaths And Severe Financial Losses


(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Local officials in Bamyan province, central Afghanistan, report that floods yesterday in several districts have resulted in the loss of nearly 20 lives and significant financial damages.

The Press Office of the Bamyan stated in a newsletter that these floods occurred yesterday, June 26th, in several districts of the province.

Officials in the province mentioned that seven members of two families in the districts of Dezak-e Cheshmeh, Hazar Cheshmeh, and Poudineh Taw died, and 10 individuals, including women and children, are missing in the Yakawlang-1 district.

The newsletter stated that floods in the areas of Dezak-e Cheshmeh, Hazar Cheshmeh, and Poudineh Taw of Yakawlang-1 district have caused significant financial damages, including the loss of 35 cattle and destruction of agricultural lands, houses, and roads.

Furthermore, heavy rainfall in several villages of Kamard, Panjab, and Waras districts triggered devastating floods, resulting in extensive financial damages such as mosque destruction, residential houses, agricultural lands, wheat stocks, complete farm destruction, and water resources.

The Governor of Bamyan emphasized addressing the needs of flood-affected people when assessing flood-hit areas.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Akram, Head of Natural Disaster Management in Badakhshan, reported the total destruction of 30 residential houses, 300 hectares of agricultural land, a school building, and irrigation canals.

Notably, Afghanistan is recognized as one of the ten most climate-vulnerable countries globally.

These floods have been destructive in recent months, claiming hundreds of lives and causing significant financial damages in several provinces of the country.
