Zelensky Signs Law On Status Of English In Ukraine


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed the Law "On the Use of English in Ukraine".

The relevant message appeared on the website of the Verkhovna Rada , Ukrinform reports.

The law establishes the status of English as one of the languages of international communication in Ukraine.

As MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak noted in his Telegra , this law, in particular, defines the categories of positions for which candidates are required to speak English, regulates the specifics of the use of English in the work of government agencies, local governments, in the fields of education, culture, transport, and healthcare.

The explanatory note to this document states that it is intended to "officially consolidate the status of English as one of the languages of international communication in Ukraine, define the categories of positions for which candidates are required to speak English, regulate the specifics of the use of English in the work of public authorities of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, local governments, emergency services, when crossing the state border, in the fields of education, culture, transport, healthcare, etc.".

As reported, on 4 June, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law on the use of the English language in Ukraine . Law No. 9432 was voted for by 236 MPs.
