Moecc Launches Inspection Campaign To Protect Environment

Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) represented by the Wildlife Protection Department has launched an inspection and awareness campaign to protect the environment.

The drive, which will run until June 22, targets coastal areas in the northern, central and southern parts of the country.

The campaign aims at recording violations of environmental law and educating people about the legislations issued by the country to preserve the environment.

“The drive was launched on the occasion of Eid Al Adha festivity when a large number of people visit beaches and other picnic places,” Director of Wildlife Protection

Department at MoECC Hamad Salem Al Nuaimi said in a statement.

He said that the picnickers will be introduced to environmental laws and regulations to influence their behaviour for healthy practices to preserve the local ecosystem.

“The campaign will focus on curbing disposing of waste at undesignated places and releasing camels in prohibited places following the Ministerial Decision No 23 of 2023 in the northern, central and southern parts of the country until June 22,” said Al Nuaimi.

He said that the coastal areas and beaches which attract picnickers during Eid Al Adha will witness cleaning campaigns for removing the harmful waste.

“An inspection and awareness drive will be held at northern coastal areas of the country where the environmental violations will be recorded starting from today until June 22,” said Al Nuaimi.

He said that the Department is running an inspection and awareness campaign at crushers operating in different areas.“The drive also targets Khor Al Udaid and Sealine where the visitors are being educated about the key laws and regulations for preserving the environment,” said Al Nuaimi.

He said that the campaign is part of massive efforts of the MoECC, which was made recently to preserve the biodiversity and local ecosystem, including plants and animals. MoECC efforts included the launch of many projects and initiatives for protecting the local environment.

For example, he said, a campaign to clean out the Qatari mainland by the Wildlife Protection Department in a record time of no more than three months.“Another project was fencing and rehabilitating all meadows, which began with those that are of historical and environmental importance to the Qatari community” said Al Nuaimi.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change recently recorded 17 environmental violations during an awareness campaign that targeted several areas on the northern coast of the Qatar. The drive was conducted in coordination with the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) to protect the wildlife and ensure biodiversity.
