Lack Of Shelter Our Biggest Problem: Returning Refugees In Ghazni

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Afghan refugees who have returned to southern Ghazni province from Pakistan say they lack shelter and have been struggling with many other problems.

Mohammad Aman, who returned from Pakistan some time ago, told Pajhwok Afghan News that he currently lived in a shabby house of his relatives in Old City area of Ghazni.

“I cannot afford renting a house. The government once gave me a little money when I arrived. Now our situation is bad. There is no employment,” he added.

Anar Gul, another returnee, said they were expelled from Pakistan and now they were facing many problems.

He says:“We have problems in every aspect of life, but the housing problem is the biggest. The government should address this problem first.”

Sharifa, a female returnee, told Pajhwok she could not rent a house due to her economic hardships.

She added:“The rent is high and it is not easy to find a house against rent and I cannot pay.”

Some other Afghans returnees from Pakistan held similar views and urged the government to solve their shelter problem besides other problems.

On the other hand, government officials say they are striving to solve all the problems of refugees.

Governor Hafiz Aminjan Omari told Pajhwok that a committee had been set up to deal with the problems of refugees in areas of health, education and others.

Also, resettlement officer at the Refugees and Repatriation Department told Pajhwok that the caretaker government leadership had started the process of building a township for refugees in Ghazni.

He said coordination meetings were also held with the Care, World Food Program, Danish Refugee Organization, Child Protection Agency, United Nations Children's Fund and a number of other aid agencies to address other problems of the refugees.
