Biden, Stoltenberg Commend NATO's Ukraine Support Ahead Organization's July Summit


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, June 18 (KUNA) -- President Joe Biden and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg met late Monday at the White House, discussing a variety of issues including further support to the Ukraine as well as an increase in the organization's military spending.
A statement by the White House revealed that the meeting came ahead of NATO's 75th Anniversary Summit in Washington, DC next month.
Biden welcomed steps by NATO Allies were taking to support Ukraine and to deepen partnerships, including in the Indo-Pacific.
President Biden and Secretary General Stoltenberg also discussed significant progress on defense spending, including that, a record 23 Allies will reach NATO's two percent spending threshold, a more than two-fold increase since President Biden took office.
Stoltenberg is expected to meet with Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday with the meeting followed by a joint press conference.
The upcoming NATO anniversary summit in Washington comes amid fears amongst members of the organization in regards to a hypothetical Russian militaristic expansion in Europe if Moscow won the war in the Ukraine. (end)
