Ombudsman Hopes Peace Summit To Allow Finding More Mediators For POW Swaps With Russia

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The Summit on Peace in Ukraine will provide an opportunity to convey Ukraine's position, as well as to find new mediators for the exchange of prisoners of war and captured civilians, as well as the return of Ukrainian children earlier abducted by Russia.

That's according to Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, who spoke on the air of the national telethon, Ukrinform reports.

"The Peace Summit is, most importantly, an opportunity to convey our position, to find new mediators and also to strengthen the position of existing ones between Ukraine and the Russian side," Lubinets said.

He said that the Ukrainian side has separately designated tracks for children, for prisoners of war, and for for civilians.

"Civilians are one of the most difficult tracks: there is no regulation on how to do this at all. I really hope we will receive specific proposals from our partners," Lubinets emphasized.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, the inaugural Summit on Peace in Ukraine kicked off its work in Switzerland's Bürgenstock Saturday afternoon with the participation of 100 delegations from 92 countries and eight international organizations.
