Amman, June 12 (Petra) -Minister of
energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, said Jordan is one of the "advanced" countries in the use of
renewable energy, which is a "basic" privilege and requirement for green hydrogen production.
Speaking during the activities of the closing
workshop to study "Options for
legal and Regulatory Frameworks for the Production, Use and Export of Green Hydrogen in Jordan," he noted the Kingdom's success in renewable energy enabled it to sign 12 memorandums of understanding (MoU) to study the possibility of producing green hydrogen.
The minister added that one framework agreement was also inked with investors interested in developing this industry, preparing the National Green Hydrogen Strategy, and forming the national team to follow up and implement its axes.
Kharabsheh noted the industry of green hydrogen and its derivatives in Jordan are a "new" business,which the ministry is working to develop in cooperation with government partners, developers and international funding bodies.
Additionally, Kharabsheh referred to the successes made in signing the MoUs and studies prepared by companies operating in the green hydrogen field.
The minister said some companies have completed all requirements according to the memos signed with them, and have moved on to the next steps.
Kharabsheh indicated that this effort aligns with the National Green Hydrogen Strategy and the Economic Modernization Vision, which set an "ambitious" insight to make Jordan a "regional" hub for green energy production.
Development of legislative frameworks, in partnership with partners to start producing green hydrogen, goes simultaneously with launching infrastructure, which the ministry is currently implementing to serve this industry, he pointed out.
Kharabsheh also noted related laws and regulations for public health, safety and environmental requirements will also be developed.
