Azerbaijan Commemorating 8Th Anniversary Of April 2016 Battles In Karabakh
On April 2, 2016, all the frontier positions and settlements ofAzerbaijan were subjected to heavy fire by the Armenian ArmedForces. As a result of the shelling of Azerbaijan's settlementslocated along the line of contact, six civilians were killed,including two children under the age of 16. Numerous public andprivate facilities, including civil infrastructure, were severelydamaged as a result of the attack.
Azerbaijan responded with an armed offensive, which resulted infour days of fighting, as the country liberated several importantstrategic spots previously occupied by Armenian Armed Forces.
Among the liberated territories during the four-day fightingwere heights around the village of Talish, as well as Seysulansettlement, and Leletepe hill located in the direction of Fuzulidistrict. As a result of the April battles, 30 Armenian tanks, upto 15 artillery installations and engineering fortifications weresubjected to destruction, 320 Armenian soldiers were killed andover 500 enemy soldiers were wounded.
Military operations along the line of contact between theAzerbaijani and Armenian forces ceased on April 5, by agreement ofthe parties.
As a result of the successful counteroffensive, more than 2,000hectares of territory were liberated from the Armenian occupation April battles, in general, demonstrated President of theRepublic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces IlhamAliyev's special attention to the army, the high combat readinessof the Azerbaijan Armed Forces, their ability to liberate theoccupied territories.
Azerbaijani army's victories in the April battles have laid thefoundation for the liberation of Azerbaijani lands from theArmenian occupation during the 44-day war (from late Sept. throughearly Nov.2020).
