(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) Slave Island is to be known as Kompanyaveediya in all three languages (Sinhalese, Tamil and English), according to a decision taken by the Cabinet.
Cabinet Spokesman Bandula Gunawardena said that the English name Slave Island and the Tamil name will be dropped through a gazette notice.
Accordingly, Slave Island will be known as Kompanyaveediya in all three languages.
The proposal in this regard was presented by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena as the Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government,a and was approved by Cabinet. (Colombo Gazette)
