Al Garni Earns Back-To-Back Wins In Spain

Doha, Qatar: Qatar's Mohammed Al Garni won the gold medal in the 5,000m event at the Meeting Desafio Nerja 2023, in Nerja, Spain.

Al Garni won the race in 13:23.83 minutes at the Estadio Enrique Lopez Cuenca. Home athletes Sergio Jimenez (13:24.63) and Fernando Carro (13:26.54) came second and third respectively in the event which saw 23 runners, including prominent athletes from Ethiopia.

His victory on Friday came a week after he clinched another gold, at the Meeting de Atletismo Toni Bonet in Ibiza, where he won the men's 3000m event in 7:50.91.

Al Garni's participation comes as part of the Qatar Athletics Federation's program to prepare runners for upcoming events, most notably the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok and the World Championships in Budapest in July and August, in addition to the Asian Games in China in November.
