Israeli Strike on Aleppo Causes Casualties, Damage, Placing Airport Out of Service
(MENAFN) Late on Monday evening, the country's defense Ministry reported that an Israeli strike on Aleppo, a northern Syrian city, had resulted in the death of one soldier and injuries to seven individuals, two of whom were civilians. The ministry claimed that Israeli forces had carried out an air attack with bursts of missiles, targeting the city's airport and several nearby locations. The strike resulted in damage to the airport, placing it out of service, as well as causing material damage to the surrounding area.
Despite Syrian air defenses managing to intercept most of the incoming missiles, the severity of the damage to the airport's runway led to the cessation of its operations. Israeli officials have yet to comment on the missile strike.
This is not the first time that Syria has accused Israel of launching attacks on its territory. Just a few days prior, on Saturday, the Syrian defense ministry claimed that Israel had carried out an air aggression by firing several missiles on the central Homs region. While Syrian air defense systems were able to successfully shoot down some of the missiles, the attack resulted in the injury of three civilians. The strike also set fire to an oil station and a number of tankers, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency, which cited a military source.
The situation highlights the ongoing tensions between Syria and Israel, with the former continuing to accuse the latter of launching attacks on its territory. The recent attacks have also resulted in civilian casualties and material damage, underscoring the impact of such actions on innocent individuals and the surrounding environment.
