EU Condemns Assault On Its Ambassador In Sudan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, April 18 (KUNA) -- The European Union has condemned the assault on EU Ambassador in Sudan in his own residency in Khartoum.
"This constitutes a gross violation of the Vienna Convention. Security of diplomatic premises and staff is a primary responsibility of Sudanese authorities and an obligation under international law," said EU High Representative Josep Borrell on his twitter message late Monday.
According to media reports, the EU's ambassador in Sudan, Aidan O'Hara, from Ireland was not seriously hurt.
Irish Foreign Minister Micheal Martin described the attack as a "gross violation of obligations to protect diplomats". (end)
