Mytheresa CEO Discusses Plans for Expansion in Saudi Arabia

(MENAFN) German luxury e-tailer Mytheresa has identified the Middle East, and particularly Saudi Arabia, as an important market for its continued growth. In recent months, the company has hosted events in both Riyadh and Dubai, demonstrating its commitment to the region.

Arab News recently spoke with Mytheresa CEO Michael Kliger to gain insight into the company’s plans for expansion in Saudi Arabia and how it continues to maintain a prominent position in the world of luxury e-commerce.

Kliger noted that Saudi Arabia is the largest market in the Middle East, having overtaken the UAE in recent years. While Saudi clients previously ordered luxury goods to be delivered to their apartments in Europe, there is now a significant increase in domestic demand as the country invests in improving its infrastructure for hospitality and retail.

“I was in Riyadh in January, and it’s clear that the government plans on making the infrastructure in terms of hospitality and retail as good as what the Saudi client is used to when they go to France or Italy — so it’s very exciting. It’s a very fashionable region,” Kliger stated.

Mytheresa plans to increase its presence in Saudi Arabia by expanding its ground staff, including personal shoppers, and hosting more local PR and events. Kliger emphasized the importance of face-to-face interaction with clients in order to better understand their needs and preferences.

Originally founded as a standalone multi-brand boutique in Munich in 1987, Mytheresa has since grown into one of the most prominent players in the luxury e-commerce industry. The company went public on the New York Stock Exchange in January 2021 and continues to see success in its global operations.
