Armenia extends "hand of friendship" to Turkey after catastrophic earthquakes

(MENAFN) According to Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Armenia offered a "hand of friendship" to Turkey following last week's twin earthquakes that have so far claimed approximately 35,420 lives in the nation.

At a press conference with his Armenian colleague Ararat Mirzoyan in the Turkish capital of Ankara, Cavusoglu noted, "Armenia extended a hand of friendship in this difficult time, and demonstrated solidarity and cooperation." Mirzoyan's trip to Turkey, according to Cavusoglu, was " meaningful."

On February 6, earthquakes measuring magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 impacted nine other provinces, including Hatay, Gaziantep, Adiyaman, Malatya, Adana, Diyarbakir, Kilis, Osmaniye, and Sanliurfa. The earthquake was centered in the Kahramanmaras province. The terrible earthquakes in Turkey have had an impact on more than 13 million people.

The powerful earthquakes that occurred over a period of less than 10 hours were felt in a number of nations in the region, including Syria and Lebanon.

Cavusoglu mentioned that following the earthquakes, Armenia deployed a 28-person search and rescue team to Turkey, and that their work has been ongoing in Adiyaman since February 8.
