WASHINGTON, USA – Responding to a request from the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) of Guatemala, the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS), through the Department for Electoral Cooperation and Observation (DECO) of the Secretariat for Strengthening Democracy, sent a technical team to the country this week to visit the electoral body, to explore areas of technical cooperation on electoral issues ahead of the general elections on June 25.

The technical team of four people, led by the chief of Electoral Cooperation of the DECO/OAS, Cristóbal Fernandez, and made up of specialists in electoral organization and technology, will meet with the members and technical areas of the TSE.

During the visit to Guatemala, the OAS technical team will analyze the possibilities and scope of technical cooperation, which would allow the collaboration between the OAS General Secretariat and the TSE to move ahead.

In the next general elections, more than nine million people are eligible to elect the next president and vice president of the Republic, 160 members of Congress, 340 municipal corporations and 20 deputies to the Central American parliament.
