Poland: EU develops dependence on Russian natural resources

(MENAFN) Mateusz Morawiecki, the prime Minister of Poland, warned on Monday that Europe has allowed its reliance on Russian energy to become as extreme as that of a heroin addict.

Morawiecki asserted, while speaking at a conference in Warsaw on initiatives to help Ukraine, that the European Union became addicted to Russian natural resources, with Moscow doing its best to facilitate the addiction. He also mentioned that “the dealer always gives the first dose for free or very cheap so that the addict comes for more and agrees to any price.”

Gas agreements with Russia "turned out to be a pact under which Europe sold its soul," the prime minister claimed. He asserted that the reason why the continent was "so easily seduced by Russia" was not due of "demonic abilities," but rather, its own frailty.

Morawiecki claimed that the situation in Ukraine has awoken several nations "from their geopolitical sleep. He also mentioned that ” as the fighting rages, the West stands at a crossroads: “either the victory of Russia and the defeat of the West, or the renaissance of Western civilization.”
