On Monday, Russia accused the US of“actively” using the“contradictions” between China and India to its advantage.

Denis Alipov, the Russian ambassador to India, Stated that his country would like to normalization of India-China relations.

Alopov added that the relationship between India and Russia is“under stress” due to current geopolitical development due to the“belligerent” stand taken by the US-led west on the conflict in Ukraine.

The representative reaffirmed Russia's commitment to completing the deliveries of the third regiment of the S-400 air defence system on time. India ordered five S-400 regiments as part of a $5.43 billion agreement finalized in October 2018.

The Center for Global India Insights and writes Network held the conference entitled“Next Steps in India-Russia Strategic Partnership; Old Friends New Horizon.

In response to a posed question at the conference, he said,“We understand there are severe impediments to that, a severe border problem between the two countries. We had a border problem with China, an armed conflict with the Chinese at some stage of the problem, it took us around 40 years to negotiate, but ultimately this is the only way to find a solution.”

He also further clarifies,“I am not going to suggest what India or China should do... This is a bilateral matter between India and China; we do not interfere with that.

However,“the sooner there is a normalization between the two countries, the better for the whole world. If our efforts are required, we will make every effort to facilitate it, Alipov added.

India and China's relations have been worsening. The two big powers are engaged along their disputed borders in the Himalayan region.

The cause of the conflict between the two sides lies in an undefined 3440 km-long disputed border. Due to the river flow and snowy area, the line can shift from one side to another, leading to a border clash between soldiers.

On the other hand, both sides have started extensively building military infrastructure along the Line of Actual Control (de facto border), which has increased the tension.

After the Galwan Valley conflict in June 2020, both sides started bilateral and trilateral negotiations, which ended without tangible results. Experts say that both sides are not satisfied with the current geopolitical scenario along the borders, making it challenging to identify borders on the ground.

Since the 2020 clash, there has been an increase in the faceoff between both sides. This has created colossal distrust and deteriorated their diplomatic relations.

ALipov also said that India-China relations would benefit world affairs and prevent others (the west) from actively exploiting the existing contradictions between them.
