The Ministry of Municipality plans to make Panda House Park a major international tourist destination by adding a number of attractions to the facility.

“A worldwide campaign will be launched in coordination with Qatar tourism and Qatar Airways to introduce the Panda House Park, a 120,000sqm state-of-the-art facility in Al Khor, housing two giant pandas 'Thuraya' and 'Suhail',” said Director of the Public Parks Department, Eng. Mohammed Ali Al Khori.

Speaking to Qatar TV recently, he said many new things will be added to the park. He said details will be announced later.

Al Khori said Panda House Park is attracting 1,700 daily visitors with advanced booking through Oun app of the Ministry of Municipality.

“The two giant pandas came from China under an agreement between Qatar and China, making Qatar the first such country in the Middle East. This is one of 20 such agreements signed by China with other countries,” said Al Khori.

He said that Panda House Park in Al Khor is the largest of its kind in the world. It has a pond and climbing facilities to provide a natural habitat-like environment to the pair.

“The temperature inside the park is about 15 degrees Celsius. Many types of trees from the habitat of pandas were planted at the facility,” said Al Khori.

He added that about 3,000 bamboo plants were also planted in the outer areas of the park to make the pandas feel at home.

“A group of specialists in Giant Panda Medicine from China joined the Public Parks Department for providing best care to the pandas,” said Al Khori.

The Panda House Park also has a giant panda display and shelter, green areas, and service buildings.

A medical facility is also annexed to the panda park to meet the needs of the animals at all times.

The Panda Park was designed similarly to the mountains of their homeland, Minshan Mountains in the Chinese province of Sichuan.
