US, Japan Agree Framework Deal On Cooperation In Outer Space


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Jan 13 (KUNA) -- The United States and Japan signed on Friday an agreement that will build on decades of cooperation in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes.
The signing ceremony of the Framework Agreement for Cooperation in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space took place at NASA HQ in Washington, D.C, in the presence of US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, visiting Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and Minister for Foreign Affairs Hayashi Yoshimasa, along with NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, US Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel and other US and Japanese leaders.
The deal took 'more than 10 years in the making,' Secretary Blinken told reporters, noting that it underscores a shared commitment to safe and responsible outer space activities in Earth's orbit, at the Moon, and beyond.
'The agreement, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies, for Peaceful Purposes, builds on many years of peaceful and fruitful cooperation in space and represents our shared vision for furthering scientific progress and human space exploration,' he added. (pickup previous)
