Citizens of UAE now wield globe’s most powerful passport in world


(MENAFN) Based on the most recent Passport Index rating by Canadian financial advising firm Arton Capital, citizens of the United Arab Emirates now hold the world's most potent passport and can travel easily to all but 9 percent of the world's nations.

According to a Wednesday Arton report, the United Arab Emirates -issued document outranked other countries like Germany, Sweden, and Luxembourg to take the top spot. According to Montreal-based Arton, passport holders from the federation of sheikhdoms in the Persian Gulf now have a combined mobility score of 180, up from 160 a year ago, and can travel to 121 countries without a visa and enter 59 more with one on arrival.

Previously, the Passport Index classified the oil-rich Emirates, which comprise Dubai and Abu Dhabi, as the best Middle Eastern country. The most multi-national company headquarters in the area are located there as well.

In recent years, the United Arab Emirates has forged a number of significant trade and diplomatic agreements, including the normalization of relations with Israel in 2020. Through the introduction of a new remote worker visa program last year, it has drawn thousands of foreigners.
