Kirt Linington was an executive VP at LA Fitness for 20 years and he left to start Linear Roofing & General Contractors in 2015. He Started with a team of three and started door knocking at 42 years old. He grew the company and built it out to over 240 people.
Linington came from South Africa, to the US, outside of the roofing industry but made a huge splash coming into the industry. When covid Hit, there were roughly 50 people. Door knocking was shut down completely in Texas and that was a big part of Linears business. Kirt went out and hired everyone on the team who was in sales who couldn't go to work because of covid.
Everyone went through their modern day rolodex and jumped on roofs of people they knew and Linear instantly created an opportunity for people, who were sitting at home to make money.
Not one person went back to their sales job after everything opened up from covid. Linear Roofing & General Contractors doubled in size and in revenue after covid. Linington didn't want external circumstances to dictate what was going on and changed the roofing game. He created incentive programs to give back to people. Most businesses had a scary time through covid but Linear was considered an essential business and was blessed to be in that position of not buckling down but doubling up. Linear, took all these guys working 9-5 jobs, making x amount of dollars and they all have amazing success stories about the choice they made to switch to linear for work during covid.
Linington wanted to get people back to enjoying the quality of life. It is a company built around exceptional customer service but a team that lifts each and everyone of us lifts up together. We motivate each other and reward each other. One of the key pieces Linington reiterates daily and has learned and implemented is to create a workplace that doesn't discipline but encourages to do better and avoid little mistakes. Great leaders inspire commitment but ineffective leaders force compliance. Kirt believes that a person can hire the attitude and teach them the rest. There is always training going on and there is a philosophy for leadership. He believes in investing in people and Linear is a great example of how well it is working out.
