Presidents Of Indonesia, UAE Inaugurate Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque In Surakarta


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUALA LAMBUR, Nov 14 (KUNA) -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo and President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan inaugurated on Monday the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in the former's hometown of Surakarta, Central Java.
In a tweet on his official account on (Twitter), Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed said 'We were pleased to inaugurate the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in the beautiful city of Solo in Indonesia, accompanied by my friend President Joko Widodo.
This initiative expresses the meanings of interdependence, love and cooperation for good that was embodied by Sheikh Zayed,' he added.
A report by the Indonesian News Agency (Antara) stated that the two leaders made a short tour to see the sights of Surakarta, also known as Solo, and then performed prayers at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, then signed the commemorative plaque for the opening, which will be hung in the mosque's mihrab.
ANTARA quoted the Governor of (Central Java) Ganjar Pranuo as saying that mosque will be a center for religious activities and will host constructive discussions among Muslims.
The opening ceremony of the mosque was modest and took a short period of time, during which a tree was planted in the courtyard of the mosque, Pranuo added.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed's visit to Indonesia comes to participate in the seventeenth summit of heads of state and governments of the Group of Twenty (G20), which will be held tomorrow in Bali and will last for two days. (end)
