Russia accuses Ukraine of abusing its grain corridor

(MENAFN) According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the agreement made by Russia with Turkey and the United Nations to enable the sale of Ukrainian grain across the Black Sea is being misused, especially by smugglers.

Russian specialists assessing ships travelling under the July deal are being put under strain by a "artificial" crowding of boats in Istanbul's port, the Ministry said in a statement on Friday. It believes the purpose is to drive them into less stringent cargo checks.

Since the route was released, “over 70 ships were detained. Some of them were banned for the systematic violation of the rules of navigation in the maritime corridor and attempts to smuggle items in specially designed secret compartments,” the announcement read.

According to Moscow, such "abuse" of the agreement cannot be overlooked, "particularly in light of the current investigation into how explosives were supplied for the October 8 terrorist assault on the Crimean Bridge."

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) accused Ukrainian military intelligence of planning the bridge explosion, which killed three people, including the driver of the vehicle carrying the device. It stated that the bombs originated in the port city of Odessa and proceeded through Bulgaria, Georgia, and Armenia before arriving at their location.
