Saqr Ghobash Receives PUIC Secretary-General

(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) DUBAI, 20th October, 2022 (WAM) -- Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the federal National Council (FNC), received Muhammad Qureshi Nias, Secretary-General of the Union of Councils of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC), who is currently visiting the UAE.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Omar Abdulrahman Salem Al Nuaimi, FNC Secretary-General, and Afra Al Basti, Assistant Secretary-General for Parliamentary Communication, as well as FNC members Adnan Hamad, Jamila Al Muhairi, Sumaya Al Suwaidi and Afra Al Alili.
During the meeting, Ghobash welcomed Nias and stressed the importance of strengthening the relations between the FNC and the PUIC, as well as supporting the parliamentary work of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Ghobash congratulated Nias on his re-election as Secretary-General of the PUIC, lauding the union's role in strengthening the relations between Islamic parliaments.
The UAE is a distinguished model of coexistence, tolerance and peace, he affirmed, and added that the signing of the Abraham Accords and the Human Fraternity Document underscores the UAE's key role in promoting the values of tolerance and coexistence.
He then commended the outcomes of the PUIC's 16th conference, which was held in the Republic of Türkiye in December 2021.
Nias highlighted the PUIC's activities, future programmes and the preparations for its next conference to be held in Algeria.
