The Taliban-run Afghan Embassy in Pakistan said that 150 undocumented Afghan nationals who had been arrested for illegal immigration in Pakistan were released.

According to the embassy, the detained, which included women and children, were released on Wednesday, the 28th of September.

According to a tweet from the Afghan embassy in Pakistan, other Afghans who were detained in Pakistani jails because they lacked the proper documentation for their stay would be released after the completion of the legal procedures.

The Pakistani police detained 300 Afghans, including women and children, in Karachi two months ago due to their lack of proper documentation.

The embassy previously on the 31st of August stated that it had initiated efforts to release 300 Afghan nationals held in jails as illegal immigrants in Karachi, Pakistan.

The deputy spokesperson for the Taliban Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that some of the Afghan refugees were released today and the decision to release the rest will be made in the coming days.

The Taliban are in continuous interaction with Pakistani authorities in this respect, the Taliban official claimed, to stop exploitation groups from soliciting funds pretending to be detained Afghans.

Some Afghan immigrants in Karachi, Pakistan, claim that the Pakistani police have detained members of their families and subjected them to court fines they are unable to pay.

Regardless of that, migrant rights activists in Pakistan criticize the treatment of Afghan refugees by the government of Pakistan to be inappropriate.

As the Taliban came to power, a large portion of the Afghan population fled the country to escape persecution, especially that of religious minorities.
