Mawlana Mohammad Mohsen Hashemi, the Taliban's new governor for the northern Afghan province of Panjshir, started taking the capacity following a formal introduction ceremony.

The newly appointed Taliban governor of Panjshir province began his duties as the governor on Monday, the 26th of September.

According to the Taliban-run Bakhtar state news agency, Mawlana Mohammad Mohsen Hashemi served as the Deputy Minister of Interior Affairs before being appointed as the governor of Panjshir province.

Serving people and ensuring their security are the top priorities of his priorities, said the Taliban governor of Panjshir, Mawlana Hashemi.

The appointment comes as Panjshir province, the birthplace of the National Resistance Front (NRF), an armed group resisting the Taliban rule, has seen fatal skirmishes between the Taliban and members of NRF.

Consequently, many families are reported to have fled their homes in Panjshir in search of security in the surrounding provinces.

This comes as the Taliban supreme leader, Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, previously in late August, appointed a special military commander for Panjshir province.

Under the decree of the Taliban supreme leader, Abdul Qayyum Zakir, who served as the Deputy Minister of Defense and is reported to be one of the top military commanders of the Taliban, was appointed as the special military commander.
