UK: Impact of Russian force buildup on Ukraine conflict is doubtful
(MENAFN) The United Kingdom stated on Sunday that it is "unlikely" that Russia's intentions to increase the strength of its military is going to have any impact on its conflict with Ukraine.
In its most recent intelligence report on the conflict, the British Defense Ministry noted that it was unclear if Russia could enhance its military strength through increased conscription or increased recruiting.
The declaration reads, “in any case, under the legislation currently in place, the decree is unlikely to make substantive progress towards increasing Russia’s combat power in Ukraine.”
Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, signed a presidential decree on August 25 that added about 140,000 soldiers to the nation’s armed forces. The order also gave the government the green light to allocate the money required to make this happen.
Read the British declaration, “this is because Russia has lost tens of thousands of troops; very few new contract servicemen are being recruited; and conscripts are technically not obliged to serve outside of Russian territory.”
