Tinubu Authorises Deployment of Four Ambassadorial Nominees

(MENAFN) Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, on Thursday gave formal approval for the deployment of four ambassador-designates from the 67 candidates earlier endorsed by the Senate in December.

According to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu ratified the nomination of Ayodele Oke as ambassador-designate to France, while Colonel Lateef Are was cleared to serve as ambassador-designate to the United States.

The president also validated the appointment of Amin Dalhatu, who previously represented Nigeria in South Korea, as high commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom. In addition, Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, a former governor of Kebbi State, was approved as ambassador-designate to Türkiye, a country Tinubu is expected to visit on a state tour next week.

“In a memo to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Tinubu urged the ministry to notify the governments of the four countries about the ambassador-designates, in accordance with diplomatic procedures,” the statement said.

Back in December, the Senate confirmed a total of 67 nominees for ambassadorial positions. Among them, 34 were classified as career diplomats, while the remaining 33 fell under the non-career category.

Career ambassadors are seasoned foreign service officers who advance through established diplomatic hierarchies, whereas non-career ambassadors are generally political nominees chosen for factors such as specialized knowledge beyond diplomacy or demonstrated allegiance.
