US holds trade meetings with Taiwan

(MENAFN) The U.S. administration will hold meetings with Taiwan on a thorough trade agreement to back the self-ruled island democracy China titles as its own land.

The statement issued on Thursday comes following Beijing held army trainings that included firing missiles to the sea to threaten Taiwan after a visit by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the top member of the U.S. administration to head to Taiwan since 1997.

Temporarily, Taiwan's military held an exercise Thursday with missiles and cannon pretending a reaction to a Chinese missile raid.

On the words of Leader Joe Biden’s manager for the Indo-Pacific region, Kurt Campbell, trade meetings would “deepen our ties with Taiwan” but underlined policy was stable.

In addition, The United States has no diplomatic ties with Taiwan, its ninth-largest trading partner, but upholds general informal relations.

The U.S. Trade Representative’s statement did not refer to any strain with Beijing but declared “formal negotiations” would improve trade and regulatory relations, to lead to closer official contact.
