G7 sends Moscow nuclear demand

(MENAFN) The Group of Seven (G7) has ruled that Russia must return the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant it seized from Kiev authorities in early March.

“We demand that Russia immediately hand back full control to its rightful sovereign owner, Ukraine, of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant,” according to a statement, penned by the foreign ministers of Germany, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US.

As per the diplomats, the step is essential to guarantee the facility’s “safe and secure operations.” In addition to that, the G7 once again called on Russia to “withdraw its troops from within Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders and respect Ukraine’s territory and sovereignty.”

Only a day earlier, Moscow had called a special meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss "Ukrainian provocations," which it referred to as a string of shelling attacks on the power plant in recent days. Thursday is anticipated to be the day of the meeting.
