Russian forces take out US-made radar equipment, HIMARS rockets
(MENAFN) In eastern Ukraine, Russian forces have destroyed a sophisticated US missile and radar system.
Two High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and AN/MPQ-64 radar systems used by Ukrainian forces were destroyed in the Donetsk area, the Russian Defense Ministry reported in its daily briefing on Friday.
According to the ministry, Russian soldiers on Wednesday damaged a Gepard anti-aircraft system being used by Ukrainian forces in the Mykolaiv area and provided by Germany.
The defense ministry added that it has also destroyed seven HIMARS missiles in the adjacent Kherson area in addition to shooting down three Ukrainian jets in the Mykolaiv region.
Russia has frequently cautioned that US and NATO supply of weaponry to Ukraine might have unanticipated effects in addition to igniting the crisis between Moscow and Kiev.
In the meanwhile, Western nations committed an additional $1.55 billion in help to the Kiev government in Ukraine.
At the conclusion of a meeting of the defense ministers of 26 European nations on Thursday in Copenhagen, Denmark, Danish Defense Minister Morten Bodskov said, "We will continue to assist Ukraine in its military needs."
