China opposes US' military flyover over Taiwan Strait

(MENAFN) The recent flight of a US maritime jet across the Taiwan Strait, according to China's military, presented a danger to regional stability, and its troops are closely watching the situation.

According to the military, the flight on Friday disturbed the situation in the region and jeopardized peace and stability, and Beijing summoned its air and naval troops to monitor the operation of the US aircraft.

Colonel Shi Yi, spokesperson for the People's Liberation Army's Eastern Theater Command, said in a statement that Beijing firmly opposes US moves in this direction and that Chinese military troops are on high alert.

This followed Taipei's announcement on Tuesday that several Chinese airplanes had breached the island's airspace.

On Tuesday, at least 29 Chinese fighter planes were reported to have entered the so-called Taiwan air defense reconnaissance zone. Fighters, strategic bombers, anti-submarine aircraft, and other aircraft were among them.
