Qatar has participated in meetings held in Pakistan to review the 'United Nations Convention against Corruption,' represented by the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority (ACTA), via video-conferencing, QNA reported. The review process will achieve multiple objectives, including strengthening the objectives of the United Nations Convention against Corruption and providing the Conference of States Parties with information on the measures they have taken in implementing the Convention and the difficulties they encounter in undertaking such measures.
The process also assists States parties to determine and justify special needs for technical assistance, expediting the provision of technical assistance, encouraging and facilitating international co-operation to prevent and combat corruption, including the asset recovery, in addition to providing the Conference of States Parties with the information on aspects of States' success in implementing and using the Convention, the good practices they pursue, as well as the challenges they encounter.
The governmental experts of Qatar, Kenya, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime made their observations at the review meetings held in Pakistan. The observations were discussed during a series of intensive meetings held between the parties. Qatar was one of the first countries in the world to host the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, as part of its efforts to foster international co-operation in preventing and combating corruption.
Doha hosted the third session of the conference in 2009 and during that session, the review mechanism of the United Nations Convention against Corruption was adopted, which continues to play the largest role in strengthening the implementation of the Convention and the exchange of relevant international experiences.
