(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, May 27 (KUNA) -- UN permanent representatives of Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, and Tunisia held a meeting on Friday to discuss the water situation of the Arab region ahead of the UN's 2023 Water Conference.
Kuwait Representative to the UN Mansour Al-Otaibi said the meet was organized in coordination with UN's Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) were issues and cases regarding water resources significant to the region are being arranged for the upcoming conference.
The meeting was attended by Under-Secretary General and Executive Secretary of ESCWA, Special Envoy of International Water Affairs of the Netherlands, as well as the Co-Chair of the International Steering Committee of the 2022 Dushanbe Conference of Tajikistan, and Under-Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs at UN-DESA.
The topic is very concerning for the region, considering that 19 out 22 Arab states are considered to be water scarce, therefore global and regional collaborative efforts are needed to manage such an issue.
