Colombo, May 18 (newsin.asia): The Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesighe on Wednesday told parliament that due to poor weather conditions gas shipments there had been problems in unloading the consignments. This had caused a delay.
He further said that the country had received US$ 160 million from the World Bank. But this money cannot be used for fuel purchases. However, the Government is discussing this matter with World Bank officials, requesting them to allow use of the funds for urgent purchases of fuel.
“The World Bank money is at the moment for cash transfers, there are some more to come. However, we are going to ask them whether we can use some of this money urgently to get petrol,” he said.

The Prime Minister added that the fertilizer issue is also being addressed. Due to the war in Ukraine there is a global shortage of fertilizer, he informed.
Responding to a question from Dr. Harsha de Silva, he stated that the current information regarding the economy is incomplete and in some instances incorrect. He said by next week he will provide a full update to Parliament. In the meantime he requested those from the Opposition to come and be briefed on the situation in the next day or two.
