MoI extends grace period for legalising visa and residency status of expatriates

Doha: The Ministry of Interior has extended the grace period for legalising the status of expatriates who violated the provisions of Law No. 21 of 2015 regulating the entry and exit of expatriates and their residence until April 30, 2022.

In a statement, the Ministry said all expatriates who have violated the said law have to submit the settlement application to the Search and Follow-up Department, and the violators willing to transfer from one employer to another shall submit their application at the Search and Follow-up Department or one of the services centres in Umm Salal, Al Rayyan, Mesaimeer, Al Wakra or Umm Senaim. Other settlement applications for issuance and renewal of the residence permit under the existing employer shall be submitted at any one of the service centres in Al Shamal, Al Khor, Al Daayen, Umm Salal, The Pearl, Onaiza, Souq Waqif, Al Rayyan, UmmSenaim, Al Shahaniya, Mesaimeer, Al Wakra and Dukhan.

The Ministry stressed that violators should visit the centres from 1 pm to 5 pm until April 30.

According to the last released figures, the MoI received more than 28,000 requests from workers, while 8,227 people have returned to their countries, and 6,000 people have regularised their papers and legalised their status.

The MoI had set the end of the grace period for December 31, 2021, but extended it to March 31. This latest extension comes as positive news for the community.

The Ministry has urged expats to take advantage of the extension and ensure their legal residency status.
