UAE - Sultan bin Ahmed meets Grand Duke of Luxembourg at SMIC

SHARJAH, 23rd March, 2022 (WAM) -- H.H. sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy ruler of Sharjah, and President of Sharjah National Oil Corporation, met on Wednesday His Royal Highness Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg, at the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation (SMIC).

Welcoming his guest, the Sharjah Deputy Ruler conveyed to Grand Duke Henri the greetings of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and His Highness's interest in joint work and global exchange in cultural fields.

The meeting also dealt with the strategy of the Emirate of Sharjah and its distinguished experience in promoting humankind through education, promoting civilisational and cultural communication, sponsoring and supporting the fields of arts, heritage, history and the various museum projects that the emirate houses, and constitute one of the pillars of community learning for students and the general public.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed accompanied his guest and the accompanying delegation on a tour in the museum, where they listened to a detailed explanation about the museum's various exhibitions, as well as the most prominent models it houses, and the various activities and events offered by the Sharjah Museums Authority, which contribute to raising awareness of the importance of the museum experience.

During their visit to the 'Inspiration and Masterpieces: Venice and the Arts of Islam' exhibition, organised by the Sharjah Museums Authority in cooperation with the Venice Foundation for Civil Museums, they familiarised themselves with the contents of the exhibition, which include approximately 72 acquisitions of artworks and documents that highlight the cooperation and influence between Venice and the Islamic world in the period between the Middle Ages and the modern era, which produced a variety of Islamic motifs and artworks.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed and the Grand Duke of Luxembourg stopped at the Maymūnah Stone, which is the only tombstone of its kind on the islands of Malta, made of recycled Roman marble slabs. They listened to a detailed explanation about the stone, its history and the story of its owner, Maymūnah.

At the end of the visit, Grand Duke of Luxembourg, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah for the warm reception, praising the diverse cultural projects the Emirate of Sharjah is working on, its international cooperation efforts and promotion of knowledge and science, which reflects its insightful and future vision in encouraging and developing various human knowledge among all members of society.
