Tunisia’s president issues order to dissolve judicial council

(MENAFN) Tunisia’s President Kais Saied reported that he intends to disband the nation’s Supreme Judicial Council, during pressure with the judges.

The president included in a report on Sunday, the council “has become a thing of the past,” adding “this council has become a place where positions and appointments are sold according to loyalties.”

His announcement took place before demonstrations conducted by the president’s allies held protests to order the suspension of the council. Saied mentioned, “It’s your right to protest and it’s your right to dissolve the Supreme Judicial Council.”

Yousef Bouzakher, the head of Supreme Judicial Council, was angered by the president’s statements. He said, “We consider the decision to dissolve the council…as illegitimate. There is no legitimacy or constitutionality in dissolving the council.”
