KABUL: The ministry of public health reported 629 cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours in 17 of 34 provinces.

The ministry earlier announced that lacks kit tests for Omicron and Delta variant of Covid-19, thus it test the cases via the kits designed for the previous variants of the virus.

According to the ministry, the patients tested positive are showing the symptoms of the new Covid-19 variants including Delta and Omicron.

Deputy health minister, Abdulbari Omar called suspension of international aid as the main obstacle in the Afghan health sector.

“Unfortunately, after the Islamic Emirate came to power, aid was cut ceased to Afghanistan, which has caused challenges in this project,” he said.

Doctors at Afghan-Japan hospital said that the new Covid-19 variant has rapidly been increasing across the country.

“Cases are increasing on daily bases. If we do not have the right financial sponsors, we may not be able to provide the services we need to,” said Hashmat Faizi, a doctor.

The Afghans are worried about the new wave of the virus as the country is going through unprecedented crisis.

“Coronavirus has spread, it has become more on track than ever, I call on our citizens to take the threat of the virus seriously,” said Sharif, a resident of Kabul.

This comes as many humanitarian organization voiced concerns over the status of the Afghan health sector, saying that it has been plunging into crisis.
