Russia calls for assurances from US, NATO on expansion schemes

(MENAFN) Tensions with NATO witnessed an intense escalation lately, topping world agenda.
Russia president stressed that conferences (with NATO or the US) won’t be sufficient for tensions to alleviate highlighting “we don’t care about negotiations, we want results. not an inch to the East they told us in the 1990s, and look what happened – they cheated us, vehemently and blatantly.”

In the past week, Russia sent papers to America and NATO asking for guarantees that the western powers and their developed military weaponry will not expand eastwards towards Russia’s borders.

Vladimir Putin said, “Now they’re saying that [NATO] will have Ukraine as well. This means they will deploy their weapons [in Ukraine], even if it's not officially part of NATO.”

Putin stressed that it is now up to the North Atlantic Alliance to “immediately” find assurances instead of only “talking about it for decades.”
