Over 600 runners to test their endurance in Qatar East to West Ultra Run

Doha: Over 600 competitors will participate in the 2021 edition of the Qatar East-to-West Ultra Run tomorrow. Endurance of runners will be tested in the 90km race.
The race is completely on-road and will start from the Sheraton Park to Dukhan beach, and there will be five stops during the race to give participants rest, during which they will be served food and drink.
The event is open to professional runners and amateurs. The participants have to be healthy and must meet specific fitness requirements.
149 female athletes, out the total 650 runners from 56 nationalities, will be taking part in the race.
The run is organized by Qatar Ultra Runners sponsored by Qatar Sports for All Federation (QSFA) at the Ministry of Sports and Youth.
A source from Ministry told the Peninsula that most of the participants are from ten countries including 225 from Qatar, UK (89), Philippines (36) and India (21) among others.
Ambulances and police vehicles will be available to assist the contestants under the supervision of specialised doctors.
The race will commence at 4:30 am and will continue until 8:30 pm with prizes offered for the first three places.
Buses will be available to transfer athletes who don't have transportation back to Doha from the finish line.
The last edition also saw a great turnout with 425 participants from 44 nationalities.
The Ultra marathon is the longest and the only ultra-running race in Qatar where athletes run across the country cost to cost, covering 90 km.
The competition started unofficially in 2017 with 25 runners and the first official edition was in 2018.
