Turkey-Libya marine trade increases by 43 percent

(MENAFN) Mutual trade between Turkey and Libya jumped by 43 percent to reach USD2.3 billion during the previous couple of years, in spite of the pandemic owing to the maritime borders deal contracted by both sides.

On Friday the head of Turkey-Libya Business Council at Turkey's Foreign Economic Relations Board, Murtaza Karanfil stated that the mutual trade volume is predicted to hit USD3 billion for the first time towards the end of 2021.

He mentioned that the deal recorded by the UN seeks to protect the rights and interests of Turkey as well as Libya. He also emphasized that Libya has strategic significance as it is placed at a 3-day sea distance from Turkey and has a linking way to 56 African nations.

The official added, "Turkey's support ensures Libya's independence and internal peace. Turkey should attach importance to relations with Libya in order to protect the law in the Mediterranean, Aegean and Cyprus."
