QNRF chief: Agency fostering thriving research culture in Qatar

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: In its 15 years of operation, the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) has nurtured a thriving culture of scientific research and built the much-needed next generation of scientists and engineers to advance knowledge and education in Qatar, said QNRF Executive Director Dr. Abdul Sattar Al Taie during a public lecture given at Texas A & M University at Qatar.

Texas A & M at Qatar, a Qatar Foundation partner university, hosted the talk as part of its Al Maerifa Public Seminar Series, which is designed to share expertise and knowledge with the local community in Qatar.

During the talk, Al Taie said that by supporting original and competitive research in all fields of science through QNRF's diverse portfolio of funding programmes and initiatives, the agency has played a pivotal role in advancing Qatar's progress toward its national vision and sustainability goals. He shed light on QNRF's journey and growth to become the leading research funding agency in the region. He also shared how QNRF has helped the scientific research community in Qatar forge fruitful partnerships both locally and internationally to raise Qatar's profile as a leading international research hub.

Al Taie concluded by highlighting some landmark achievements and key societal, technological and economic impact made possible through QNRF, as well as several outstanding projects awarded to key investigators coming from academic, government and private sectors covering diverse and wide-ranging research.

“The research QNRF has supported through its rich and diverse portfolio of competitive programmes over the past 15 years has not only contributed towards fostering of a thriving research culture in Qatar but has also made a profound impact in the national, regional and international research and development community,'' Al Taie said.

He continued,“I am grateful to our longstanding partner, Texas A & M at Qatar, and Dean César O. Malavé for giving me this platform to share QNRF's journey of enabling research excellence in Qatar and to our visionary leadership for their generous and continued support of scientific research and, inspired by them, we pledge to remain deeply committed towards our mission.”

The Al Maerifa virtual seminar series features 45-minute seminars to promote knowledge on topics centered around Qatar's grand challenges and research pursuits. The talks are presented in English and are designed for a general, nontechnical audience. Participants will be invited to ask questions at the end of the presentation.

Organized by Texas A & M at Qatar's Office of Advancement, the Al Maerifa Public Seminar Series continues the partner university's core mission of sharing knowledge with the local community in Qatar, said Dr. César Octavio Malavé, dean of Texas A & M at Qatar.
