Decree creates Brazilian embassy in Bahrain

São Paulo – A decree signed by Brazil's president Jair Bolsonaro on Wednesday (20) published on the Official Gazette on Thursday (21) created the Brazilian embassy in Manama, Bahrain. Until then, Brazil didn't have a resident diplomatic mission in the Arab Gulf country, and Bahrain was cumulatively represented by the Embassy of Brazil in Kuwait City, Kuwait.

According to a statement of the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil, the embassy will facilitate business dialogue between the two countries, will contribute to the regional coordination of trade Promotion and investment attraction activities and may favor the local performance of other Brazilian bodies involved in activities of this nature, such as Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil). The negotiations around protocols and certificates will also benefit from the installation of the mission.

The Presidency reports that bilateral trade with Bahrain is favorable for Brazil. Brazilian export basket to Bahrain is concentrated in ores, chemical products, iron, steel, and mineral fuels, which account for approximately 90% of the exported value. Agribusiness represents between 8% and 9% of the exported value, mostly in meats. According to the government, the numbers allow for envisioning an increase of Brazilian share of Bahrain's market and diversification of exports.
