Lambda strain found in Austria

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) VIENNA, July 17 (KUNA) -- Austria on Saturday announced the coronavirus variant Lambda was detected in south of the nation.
The country's food safety agency said in a press release that the virus strain was found as a result of analyzing treated water samples.
The agency reported much contamination with the variant at the water assembly station, adding that samples of the infested waters were being examined at laboratories.
World Health Organization has recently warned that Lambda is much more ferocious than the previously identified strains of the pathogen.
Up to 70 percent of the cases in Chile and Argentina have been infected with Lambda.
The new strain was discovered in Peru in January 2020. (end)
