Uzbekistan to increase copper output

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Jun. 29 Uzbek president's press service stated that Uzbekistan plans to raise yearly copper output from the actual 148,000 tons to 400,000 tons in five years to fulfill increasing worldwide demand.

The press service noted that the central Asian nation's copper output has already soared by nearly 1.5 times in the last five years and hit 148,000 tons last year, adding USD2.5 billion proceeds from its export.

The data were unveiled in an administration assembly with the participation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who announced the strategies to create a copper industry cluster and bring in modern technologies in the industry engaging leading international firms.

The press service noted that Mirziyoyev also stressed the significance of producing value-added products instead of exporting copper as a raw material.
