E. Indonesia struck by 5.7-magnitude quake


(MENAFN) The national meteorology and geophysics agency announced that North Maluku province in eastern Indonesia was hit by a 5.7 magnitude quake earlier Wednesday.


The earthquake jolted at 05:59 a.m. Wednesday Jakarta Time (2259 GMT Tuesday), with the epicenter at 48 km northwest Halmahera Barat district and the depth at 133 km under sea bed.

However, no potential tsunami was triggered.


The intensity of the quake was felt at III MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity) in
People in Manado, the provincial capital of nearby North Sulawesi province, in the central part of the country, could feel the quake, of which intensity was felt at III MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity).
