(MENAFN)On Monday, May. 3 Colombia’s Ombudsman Carlos Camargo stated that 16 citizens as a minimum and one police officer lost their lives in demonstrations against an administration tax reform in Colombia since the beginning of conflict six days ago.
A number of 254 people and 457 police officers have been wounded in the demonstrations and vandalism thus far, and fighting between police and demonstrators were reported in a number of cities.
Even though demonstrations escalated on a daily basis since they started on Wednesday, President Ivan Duque noted he would adjust the controversial bill, but that it could not be withdrawn in its entirety. Lastly, Duque cancelled the proposed tax reform on Sunday.
In spite of the declaration by the Colombian leader, new demonstrations are being held in Bogota and other key cities, comprising Cali, Medellin, Barranquilla and Cartagena.
